Niall McOnegal’s paintings explore the tension between control and chaos, visibility and concealment. Using a variety of techniques, he builds layered compositions, creating dynamic interactions of colour, texture, and form.

Bright, eye-catching hues and intricate layers emerge through a process of addition and erasure. Each mark is both additive and subtractive and each layer is both a response to and a concealment of the last, creating a visual history of change. The result is a tactile palimpsest where intention and chance coexist, and where the obscured is as vital as the seen.
